Crude oil prices rose on Monday, supported by supply concerns and continued tensions encircling Syria. Oil for November delivery rose 38 cents, or 0.4%, to $90.43 a barrel. A major oil pipeline out of Canada that ships Canadian crude to U.S. Midwest refineries was idled last Wednesday.
It was reportedly due to restart on Monday, a day later than expected. Middle East tensions were also in focus after Lebanon’s intelligence chief, Brig. Gen. Wissam al-Hassan, was assassinated in a car bombing on Friday. Media reports said al-Hassan was allied with the anti-Syria opposition, and the news has raised fears of a political crisis in Lebanon.
