Amr Badawi, CEO of National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority, said that launching the global comprehensive operator license for all mobile operators is difficult in the current year as it requires total reassessment of the telecommunications sector in Egypt.
Launching a license for all mobile operators in Egypt for providing comprehensive services will reshape the sector as it will change its strategy for the next ten years, he noted.
A global comprehensive license for all operators is the optimal choice in the current period to provide equal opportunities and encourage competition among operators. The comprehensive license will exclude suspicion of monopoly that Telecom Egypt may fell under if it obtained a virtual network license.
The Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology plans to offer a license for mobile and fixed-line telephone and internet services for the four mobile operators in Egypt as a final solution to the controversy made upon announcing the launch of a virtual mobile license which raises concerns that Egypt Telecom may monopolize the market.
