The number of subscribers to mobile services rose by 0.71% in June compared to May—from 95.4 million users to 96.2 million users. The mobile market welcomes 770,000 new subscribers; thus, the prevalence of mobile phones across Egypt’s population has increased from 108.2% in May to 108.9% in June.
According to a report issued by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology for June, landline subscriptions noticeably declined in June, dropping from 6.2 million users in May to 5.9 million in June 2016—a decline of 5.5%. The prevalence of landlines to the population therefore declined to 7.1% in June compared to 7.23% in May.
The number of mobile service subscriptions had grown by 0.16% in May, compared to April 2016.
The cost of communication services has increased during the first quarter (Q1) of 2016, compared to the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2015. The cost of ADSL services jumped from $6.2 per user in Q4 of 2015, recording $6.4 per user in Q1 of 2016.
The cost of mobile services also increased from $2.6 to $2.7 per user during Q1 of 2016, as well as landline services which increased from $2.05 to $2.07 per user during the first three months of 2016.
The price of ADSL services increased by 36.3% during Q1 of 2016, compared to the same period in 2015.
