11 new Egyptian provincial governors to be sworn-in today

Eleven new provincial governors will be sworn-in Saturday by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, some of them have military backgrounds, according to presidential sources.

The newcomers will not include women or Copts, the latter a minority in Egypt.

One of the new governors will be appointed for Egypt’s second largest city, Alexandria. Also, the list of newcomers will include Al Sharqia, whose governor Reda Abdel-Salam announced Friday that he was sacked from his position by the cabinet

There are 27 provincial governors in Egypt overall.

The newcomers include;

  • Major General Ahmed Helmi Al-Haytamy for Suez Governorate,
  • Reda Mohamed Mohie El-Din Farahat for Qalyubia Governorate,
  • Major General Mohamed Abdel Qader Abdul Zaher for Alexandria Governorate,
  • El-Sayed Ibrahim Abdel Nabi Nasr for Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate,
  • Adel Mohamed Ibrahim El-Ghadban for Port Said Governorate,
  • Khaled Mohamed Saeed for Al Sharqia Governorate,
  • Ahmed Saqr for Gharbia Governorate,
  • Magdi Fouad Hegazy for Aswan Governorate, and
  • Sherif Abdel Aziz for Beni Suef Governorate.
