10 Students represent Egypt at Intel’s International Fair 2012

Six of Egypt’s brightest and most innovative students win the opportunity to travel to the United States to compete at Intel’s 2012 International Science and Engineering Fair in the state of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The fair will happen between the 13th and the 17th of May, as the students will participate in the world’s largest pre-college, science research competition.

The finalists were celebrated at two separate award ceremonies that took place at Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Alexandria and the Educational City in Cairo over this week.

This year 10 finalists will be competing from Egypt with 6 projects in the fields of Animal sciences, Chemistry, Energy & Transportation.

A total of 22 governorates across Egypt participated in the local ISEF this year, and the competition was divided into two fairs – Cairo and Alexandria – which encompassed the governorates closest to them.

A total of 97 projects were presented in Cairo’s fair, representing 145 students from 99 schools, while Alexandria’s fair reviewed 80 projects in total, representing a total of 120 students, from 35 schools.

The competition in Cairo took place in the Educational City in 6th of October district from the 14th of March to the 15th of March, while that in Alexandria took place in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, from the 10th of March to the 12th of March.

With Intel’s commitment to the improvement of society through the innovative education as well as the encouragement of the youth to think creatively and engage in competitions, Nihal Abbas, Intel Egypt Corporate Affairs Manager stated that, “The Egyptian youth that participated in Intel’s International Science and Engineering Fair exemplified passion, drive, and collaboration, which allowed them to successfully develop projects that were ultimately aimed towards improving the Egyptian society”.

Intel’s International Science and Engineering Fair is a program that reaches out to students from grades 9 to 12 specifically in the fields of Science and Engineering.

The fair is the largest science competition where students have the chance to explore, discover and innovate. More than 1,500 students from 65 countries will compete for prestigious awards and prizes exceeding 4 million dollar.
